Bus cancellations

The friendly StatsChat busbots have been tracking cancellations as well as delays: for the past month in Auckland and longer in Wellington.  Here’s a summary of the Auckland cancellations

They seem to be up again, which might not be entirely unconnected with the current increase in Covid cases. Perhaps more to the point, that’s a lot of missing buses.

In Wellington it has been bad in my area. A couple of weeks ago, I was heading to the bus stop just before 8am and saw a bus go by. I got to the bus stop and on the timetable screen every bus (~5) was cancelled until after 8:30. That was the worst day but it was happening so often that I’ve been working from home more.

A friend uses a cross town bus in Auckland regularly. AT hop has its app showing your selected routes for buses locations and cancellations. Can check before heading to bus stop.
His route is hardly affected ( roughly every 20 min) while others which use the same stop and heading into CBD will be 20-30% cancellations.
Of course a single bus driver will run a route many times in a shift and could be 20 cancellations. Staff shortages are a big factor too
