On the ‘30% die of cardiovascular disease each year’, I think the interpretation is “Each year, of those who die, 30% die of cardiovascular disease”
That’s true: the division is very roughly 1/3 cardiovascular, 1/3 cancer, 1/3 everything else. In 2011, there were 10542 deaths from causes in ICD10 chapter I: “Diseases of the circulatory system”, and 30289 total deaths.
That’s 30% of deaths, but 0.25% of New Zealanders.
