Statistics New Zealand on The Nation
Yesterday’s episode of The Nation had an interesting piece on the work that Statistics New Zealand does, its history and relevance to all New Zealanders:
Statistics New Zealand is also a finalist in the upcoming public sector excellence awards in three categories.
The video was soured for me at the end by a lot of waffle about “outcomes” rather than “processes” by academic Bill Ryan. I’m guessing that this will lead for a search for a lot of buzz-word gifted people to be the new ‘leadership.
Perhaps what I mean will be clear if we think of the part of Statistics dedicated to process improvement. This should presumably now focus on ‘outcome improvement’. Or looking at all the effort in medical research dedicated to understanding disease. This should now shift to a ‘cure-centred’ orientation?

I was hoping that part would be cut off the clip, the story itself was pretty good.
